I'm a global nomad at heart, and the dedicated editor behind CruiseGear. For the past two decades, I've experienced exciting voyages across the world, discovering countless ports from the decks of dozens of ships, visiting 40+ countries (and living in some of them for years). I want to share everything I've learned and hope to make your next cruise vacation as enjoyable as possible.

There is nothing like having an overpriced 90-minute massage to be rattled out of your zen state by someone trying to sell you creams and serums that you don’t need or want. Secondly, there are a number of cabins that are incredibly close to elevators or other facilities such as Cabin 8118 and 8618 which are close to the central elevator bank and public restrooms. The ship feels incredibly modern and updated in all public areas despite the age of the ship. The renovations and refits of the Dawn over the past years have made every space feel like you were on a nearly new ship. Almost no area was left untouched during the previous renovation. The large casino on the ship’s deck six offers slots, blackjack, craps and poker.

Family Suites on Deck 11 are 587 square feet in size, with a 50+ square-foot balcony located off the living area. These suites include a small inside kids’ room, which can sleep three people with a queen-sized pullout couch and a pulldown bunk bed. The kids’ room has its own bathroom, similar to a regular inside cabin, and a separate TV.
NCL Dawn refurbishment 2016 review
Before you experience “Freestyle Cruising” with Norwegian check out this photo gallery which features many of their ships, specialty dining options and innovative staterooms. Interior staterooms have a slightly beach-y feel, and come with minimal floor space and storage. Still, for those who are traveling alone or just with one other person, you’ll find that these staterooms more than meet your basic needs. Additionally, if you’re the type of cruiser who spends all your time in the ship’s public areas versus in your room, you’ll hardly notice the small size.
Or work on perfecting your tan as you relax poolside at Topsiders Bar. Whether you’re looking to meet up with friends or make new ones, there’s always an opportunity to mix it up. Thoughtful and stylish appointments include a TV, sitting area, and more.

Inside Cabin
They have space for seven cruisers over two stories, with multiple bedrooms, large bathrooms, and a huge deck. Penthouse suites feature large balconies, walk-in closets, large living areas and even dining areas; most penthouses can sleep four people. Owner’s suites likewise sleep four, but have a little more to offer in terms of the bedroom furnishings and bathroom size. With 2,340 passengers, Dawn feels neither too big nor too small.

The dining options are incredible and the ship has all of the legacy restaurants you’d expect from NCL including O’Sheehan’s Pub, Garden Cafe, and Bamboo Asian food. There are also the staple specialty dining restaurants including Le Bistro, La Cucina, Los Lobos, Teppanyaki, Sushi, Cagney’s & Moderno. Other amenities that this cruise ship offers include an internet cafe, as well as WiFi. However, you’ll need to pay for the WiFi, even if you just intend on using the cruise line’s concierge app. Lastly, family suites are a little less impressive, as they’re more focused on giving families larger spaces to spread out than treating them to any real luxury. Some family suites come with balconies while others do not.
For comparison, the largest ship in the world, currently, is Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, which is more than 236,000 GT, or more than double the size of Norwegian Dawn. NCL Dawn ship was intended to operate under the name "SuperStar Scorpio" with Star Cruises (GHK-owned Asian brand), but it was decided she would be delivered to NCL instead. Dawn is the first Dawn-Class NCL ship, with only fleetmate-sistership Norwegian Star.
The balconies are furnished with two chairs and a small table. Aft-facing balconies on decks 8 through 10 are the same size as regular balcony cabins but offer a larger veranda, ranging in size from 71 to 136 square feet. Come stay in the Garden Villa, our exclusive enclave offering the most well-appointed and spacious suites at sea. Spanning up to 6,693 square feet, these rooms include king- or queen-size beds, separate living and dining areas, luxury baths and private balconies.
Even though they feel a little dated, the staterooms are extremely clean and well-maintained considering they’re mostly original materials and fixtures. For kids, there’s a small “water park” known as the T-Rex Pool. It’s in the rear of the ship on deck 13 making it a little difficult to find.
Having it separate from the main pool is pretty smart, keeping kids occupied in a different wet area. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry.
